Shap from Shading (SfS) for 3D Dermatological Visualizations
Shap from Shading (SfS) for 3D Dermatological Visualizations
Abstract:
Shape from Shading (SfS) is a computer vision technique for obtaining 3-dimensional (3D) reconstructions from 2-dimensional (2D) images. In dermatology 2D images are de-facto and 3D imaging modalities are commonly expensive and in general not accessible at the majority of practices. SfS can circumvent this challenge since this technique can be applied to the standard 2D images and convert them into 3D visualizations without the need for any sophisticated hardware setup. This work designs a pipeline to obtain 3D visualizations of 2D dermatology images using a robust SfS model. This study demonstrates that SfS can provide good fidelity 3D reconstructions of 2D skin lesions across different classes.
